Newly hired Civil Engineer Trainees (CET) may have the opportunity to participate in a job rotation program encompassing all major areas of civil engineering, including design, maintenance, and development. Upon successful completion of the program, trainees advance to full Civil Engineering positions with excellent opportunities for career advancement.

Who is eligible?

If you have a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and are authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis, IDOT is interested in hearing from you. Openings may be available statewide for entry-level Civil Engineer Trainee (CET) positions.

What are the benefits of being a CET at IDOT?

As a CET, you will gain a wide range of experience, which can include:

  • Managing urban expressway traffic through Intelligent Transportation Systems that help reduce urban congestion, improve safety and serve motorists;
  • Bridge and Structure research and design;
  • Pavement research and design; and,
  • Managing Road Weather Information Systems that transmit real-time information on temperature and other weather conditions to help maintain safer roadway systems.
