Engineer Technician I (ET I)
At IDOT, ET I employees perform basic assignments, such as operating surveying equipment and
performing related mathematical computations, as well as preparing working drawings from rough
drafts or notes, performing basic project inspections and investigations, and conducting field and laboratory tests.
Specific duties may include:
- Materials, field and laboratory testing and inspection
- Drafting bridge and highway design plans
- Inspecting construction projects
- Bridge inspection
- Staking on a survey crew
- Assisting in the development of bridge, road and hydraulic design drawings
- Creating traffic surveys
- Conducting physical investigations of highway facilities
Who is eligible?
Qualifying candidates for this program will possess the knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to two years of
college in pre-engineering or civil engineering technology OR an Associate Degree from an accredited two-year civil engineering
